GSSC’s 2014 Annual Conference–which was held April 2 and 3, 2013, in Biloxi, Mississippi–was a great success! In keeping with GSSC’s mission, the focus of the meeting was Workforce Development: A Time for Change. Attendees were treated to informative keynote addresses by Joseph Keefe, Editor of Maritime Professional and Maritime News; Mike Barkett, President of Mississippi Construction Education Foundation (MCEF); and Cam Marston, Owner of Generational Insights. Participants also had the chance to learn about hiring veterans from Mark McGruder, Manager – Talent Acquisition at Ingalls Shipbuilding, employing ex-offenders by Kenyen Brown, United States Attorney, Southern Alabama Department of Justice and effective approach to reciprocal standardized safety training from R. Ronald Sokol – President and CEO of the Safety Council Texas City (SCTC). This year’s conference included a tour of the Ingalls Shipbuilding’s new Haley Reeves Barbour Maritime Training Academy and a sunset dinner reception at the Maritime Museum, Schooner Pier Complex and cruise on the schooner. Great seafood, good conversation and a few door prizes. View the photo gallery.
The General Membership Meeting started at noon on Wednesday, April 2. After the presentation of the GSSC 2014 Navigator Award, the meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m., the following day. Thanks for helping make this meeting such a success!
