GSSC HOLDS FIRST ANNUAL CONFERENCE
|
Members of GSSC participated in
our first annual conference Feb. 27-29 in Biloxi, MS. The
conference activities were all designed to concentrate on
issues facing the shipbuilding industry.
The conference included Alabama Community College System
Chancellor Bradley Byrne as the keynote speaker at a conference
dinner. In addition, there was a general session addressed
by Kevin Jarvis, a vice-president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding;
an OSHA 10-hour Maritime Training class; eight workshops led
by experts in the manufacturing and shipbuilding industry
which addressed issues impacting GSSC members; and an Exhibitor
Expo with 22 exhibitors providing conference attendees with
information on how the exhibitors support the industry. In
all, over 80 people attended the conference and participated
in its events. |
“To be able to accomplish something like so soon
in our history bodes well for us as an organization.”

“Our recent conference was a great success
considering that we have only been organized for a little over a
year. To be able to accomplish something like so soon in our history
bodes well for us as an organization,” said GSSC President
Byron Dunn.
Plans are already being discussed for the 2009 Annual
Conference. According to Audrey Smallwood one of this year’s
organizers, next year’s conference will build on this year’s
success and respond to some of the suggestions made by conference
attendees. “We are going to use the feedback we received from
our conference evaluations to enhance next year’s conference.
We will continue to plan our events with our members in mind.”
Additional details about the 2009 GSSC conference, as well as all
our events, will be shared with the membership as the plans are
finalized.
