Are you interested in a challenging career in shipbuilding and repair? The Gulf States Shipbuilders Consortium (GSSC) is sponsoring a 10-week FREE Shipfitting Boot Camp starting March 12, 2012, at the Young Memorial Campus of South Central Louisiana Technical College in Morgan City, LA, to individuals who qualify. When you successfully complete this program, you will have the skills you need to work as an entry-level shipfitter in a number of shipyards along the gulf coast. Before you apply for this training program, there are a few things you should know:
1.	You must prequalify. To qualify you must be in attendance during and successfully complete all prequalification activities scheduled Monday, Mar. 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Tues., March 6, 8 a.m.-12 noon, at the college in Morgan City, LA. Each candidate who tests negative for drugs and meets required WorkKeys skill leves will be scheduled for a brief interview Tues., Mar. 6, Wed., Mar. 7, or Thurs., Mar.
2.	You must be 18 years old and present a copy of your birth certificate prior to selection.
3.	You must be a U.S. citizen and present a copy of your Social Security card prior to selection.
4.	You must meet minimum physical requirements. Click here to view physical requirements.
5.	You must pass our drug screening on Monday, March 5.
6.	You must have no criminal record.
7.	You will not be paid to take the training. You are not covered by Workman's Compensation during the training hours.
8.	Your performance and attendance must meet the behavior and learning standards established by GSSC. Not meeting these standards may result in your termination from the training program.
